Hey Fam!

So this morning i was reading in the first few chapters of Alma and chapter 2 especially stuck out to me. First, i would like to point out a few scriptures.
In Doctrine and Covenants we learn that “men’s hearts shall fail them; for fear shall come…” And in the Testimony of Luke the same is written, “Mens hearts failing them for fear…”
Through scripture we know that “faith and fear cannot exist in the same mind at the same time, one will expel the other.” In other words, the opposite of faith is fear.
So when we read in the Doctrine and Covenants along with Luke we can replace the word heart with faith. So we now understand that “mens faith shall fail them; for fear shall come…” or “Mens faith failing them for fear…”
Ok, now to get into Jacob chapter 2. you really need to read the whole chapter, but ill try to explain briefly.
Jacob is rebuking the Nephites for their pride, but when he makes “an end speaking… concerning this pride” he brings up an even grosser crime. Which crime is not understanding the scriptures and seeking after many wives because of what was written concerning David and his son Solomon.
Now, i believe that the “grosser crime” was not simply the practice of seeking after many wives (which is evil unless commanded by God), but the effect that it had on the wives and children of these husbands when doing so. To understand what i mean we must go to the last verse of the chapter.
it reads,
“Behold, ye have done greater iniquities than the Lamanites, our brethren. Ye have broken the hearts of your tender wives, and lost the confidence of your children, because of your bad examples before them; and the sobbings of their hearts ascend up to God… many hearts died, pierced with deep wounds.”
Now if we were to look at this and realize that the “heart or hearts” is the poetic substitute of faith, then what do we now understand the “grosser crime” to really be?
We learn that this great crime is that when the fathers were seeking after that which was wicked, understanding not the scriptures, they were destroying the faith of their wives and their children. So dont let anything you say or do destroy the faith that your loved ones have in both God and YOU!

Oh and if anyone feels like having an awesome scripture study as i did this morning read Matt 10:16 then study the footnotes and ponder what Christ is trying to teach his Apostles!
