This week has been one full of relief and peace. I came to the city of Jerome about two and a half months ago. It was at this time that i received a new companion. As soon as i met this missionary i knew that the Lord had placed us together for a very special reason. The spirit revealed to me that there was something that he was hiding that was stopping him from gaining full access to the Spirit of God and the power that comes with that Spirit. After eight weeks of much prayer and fasting my companion opened up and shared a past transgression, a hidden mistake, that had not yet been confessed. I was able to help him meet with his priesthood leader where he was able to confess that which had been ailing him for years. As he first thought of confessing his past sin he began to tremble insomuch that he began to pray earnestly. Through his prayer he was blessed with the strength to do what he knew needed to be done. He described to me that as he sat with his loving leader and shared with him the thing of his past that he was overcome with relief peace. In one moment he was able to be freed from something that had caused him chronic spiritual torment for years!
This was done through no power or strength of his own, but through the enabling power of the atonement of our Lord and Savior who is Christ Jesus.
The Subject of this message is one of both warning and hope. An alternate translation for the word “harmless” is “guiltless.” Changing “Be wise, yet harmless” to “Be wise, yet guiltless.”
There is an old saying which tells us that it is a wise man that will learn from his experiences, but an even wiser man who will learn from the experiences of others. So i would ask any of you who is burdened with the guilt of past sin to learn from the oh so costly experience of my dear companion. Please do not allow the fear of consequence and uncertainty to rob you of the joy of forgiveness which comes only in and through our Savior and Redeemer who is Christ, the Son of God.
Do not be afraid, the weight and burden of sin has already been lifted. All we have to do is allow Him to take it. There is no wound so deep that the atoning sacrifice of the Lamb of God cannot heal. I love you all and pray that we may share this great knowledge with those around us. That we may declare to all that Jesus is the Christ and that He lives!
