Elder Bastian and I officially do not have bed bugs! I wasn’t going to say anything till after the fact so my mom wouldn’t be my mom, but there were some other missionaries in the area that had bed bugs and I got this rash that I was told looked just like the bites that the missionaries with bed bugs had and they were itching really bad in the mornings so the nurse thought that might be what it was. I prayed and asked God to get rid of them for us if we did have any and when the pest control dude came the next day and threw our bed he couldn’t find anything except for 1 dead bed bug. Blessings.
During my recent studies I have been thinking a lot about heart and will. I was pondering Paul’s words in his letter to the people of Corinth, “And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though i have all faith, so that i could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing. And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though i give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing.”
As i reflected again and again I was reminded of the words of Moroni where he expounds on Paul’s teaching. He tells us, “a man being evil cannot do that which is good; for if he offereth a gift, or prayeth unto God, except he shall do it with real intent it profiteth him nothing… if a man being evil giveth a gift, he doeth it grudgingly; wherefore it is counted unto him the same as if he had retained the gift… also it is counted evil unto a man, if he shall pray and not with real intent of heart…”
Paul again says it well when he states, “Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.”
I have been learning more and more that what we say and what we do MEANS NOTHING, if it is not who we become. All we are is not ours. We are all beggars. We all depend on God for all that we have. Everything we say and everything we do we can not accredit to ourselves because our bodies are not our own, our very breath is His. The only thing that we can give God that is not already his is our will. That is why it does not matter what we say or do if our hearts and minds are not right. As Paul puts it, it does not matter if you give your very life for another if you do not do it happily.
Once we have learned to go where God wants us to go, and say what God wants us to say, may we then, though the Atonement of Jesus Christ, be who he wants us to be.
Man…. I just realized I have been going off on a scriptural rant! Well for all you readers out there (mom) love ya and have a great week!
